Vampires, Murder and Mayhem in Victorian England.

Arthur Tudor has made his existence as a vampire bearable for over three hundred years by immersing himself in blood and debauchery. Aboard an airship gala, he meets Avalon, an aspiring vampire slayer who sparks fire into Arthur's shriveled heart. Together they try to solve the mystery of several horrendous murders on the dark streets of London. Cultures clash and pressures rise in this very steamy tale.

"...a delightful combination of historical fiction, romance and steampunk..."

I had a lot of fun with this book. The premise is that there's a vampire in London in the steampunk Victorian era of the 1800's, but rather than just blithely hunting down his next victim, he falls prey to a weakness he thought he had purged in his first life: love. Yep, he falls in love with a remarkable woman, and of course, this woman wants nothing to do with him.

That, by itself, might not have been enough to pull me along, but this particular vampire is no ordinary undead charmer. No, he's the older brother of wife-decapitating Henry VIII. Now, Henry and his six wives are long-dead by the time this story rolls around, but his older brother Arthur is still around and sucking blood. Having just watched The Tudors last year, this was an amazing twist, because in addition to dealing with his current life in London, Arthur has plenty of fresh reasons to ruminate on the aftermath of his original death.

On top of that, the writing was good, I cared about the characters, and the plot twists were surprising without being completely out of left field. It also had some pretty sexy passages as well. It wasn't quite one-handed reading material, but I will say this: I read two of the sexier bits in bed with company... with very pleasant results.

So, this one gets the thumbs up. If vampires, steampunk, or the Tudor dynasty are your thing, give it a look.

Avalon Revisited edition by OM Grey Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Avalon Revisited is my favorite of Olivia's books so far. She combines steampunk, erotica, history, murder, and fantasy into a wonderful ball of a story. When I first picked it up I was a little dubious about how someone could combine all this into one book, and have it be enjoyable. After reading the first chapter, I was hooked.

Olivia has a way of writing that grabs you and pulls you right into the story, and leaves you wanting more. Fortunately, it's been picked up for a sequel, so I can get more of my Arthur/Avalon fix!
I will be brutally honest in this review. I read one chapter a night to begin... the chapters are not long by any measure, I was not in the right mindset when this book became available to me. I put it down after the 5th chapter and waited two weeks to pick back up. Good thing I chose Friday night to begin anew because I started from the beginning and the characters had much more life and before you knew it I was sitting on my couch in the early hours of Saturday with a finished book in my hand.

Very good read, maybe allow yourself privacy for the wide range of facial expressions needed to absorb completely what these characters are feeling. You'll grin that devilish grin A LOT!
I'm not going to comment on the story as I couldn't finish reading this POS. The writing was horrendous. My biggest complaint PICK A TENSE AND STICK WITH IT. There is absolutely no reason to switch tense from one sentence to the next and this happened frequently. (Ex. "A Faint reflection could be explained by a trick of the light, if necessary, but it usually wasn't. After all, everyone is too busy looking at themselves.")

The only time I can think of where switching tense within a book works is if your character is having a flashback, dream or vision of some kind, in which case the text should be separated from the rest and italicized. There are authors who do this very well, but I think it is a more advanced technique best not attempted by people who can't even manage proper grammar. (Ex. "Still, it wasn't so loud that they wouldn't hear a scream...No. Must continue to move slowly." There seems to be a pronoun missing there.)

Additionally, I don't need period dialogue, but I hate a period piece where the characters sound like they belong in a modern high school instead of a 19th century ball room. The anachronisms and Americanisms were incredibly distracting.
I read the version of this over 2 days during Christmas break and I was instantly hooked. The first chapter really had my attention. I liked the historical context, the mystery, the romance. This book really had it all. I tend to like more SciFi reads, but the author made this book very accessible. I liked her twist on vampire mythology, I liked the naughty bits, and I especially liked. There really was nothing I didn't like in this book. It was a delight.
The beginning was a bit slow moving for me, but it picks up. I like the Character of Arthur and how his life is filled with empty pleasantries since he's had no taste for life since watching the love of his life be shamed. This is somewhat of a historical fiction and I loved how the author brought it together with the life of the Tudors. I love anything in this setting and of course of the Tudors!!

Arthur is 350 years old, attractive, wealthy, intelligent, witty, vain and believes any woman he wants he can conquer. He is true to vampire form and delves in a life pure carnal needs. I liked his inner dialogue and thoughts alongside what he is actual doing. He meets up with Avalon Bainbridge aboard a dirigible and instantly falls for her. She reminds him of his one true love, but so unlike the personality of his Catherine from his past. She is beautiful, smart, witty and humble. In the beginning she has no interest in Arthur probably because she thinks he's just a rich, vain, socialite. Which really, thats what Arthur has become. Her character was refreshing. Amidst this, the one mistake he makes at the beginning of the book leads to a trail of murders pointing to a vampire. Arthur finds himself emersed at trying to woo Avalon and devises a plan to do so. He finds out she and her partner are investigating the murders and finds himself along side them investigating. He also finds himself killing vampires when he's one himself, but vampires are far from the vampire he is. The vampires that are skulking around are nothing like Arthur, they are hybrids. But, how, who why? There is murder, mystery, betrayal and revelations unveiled. The book was very entertaining and worth the read. You won't be dissapointed if you like steampunk/historical fictions!!
